Here you will find links to a wide selection of e-resources that will be useful for your studies.  Some of these are freely available online and others require a password.  A brief description and access methods for each resource is listed below.  Library staff will be pleased to assist you in the use of these resources.

Free online resources (no password required)


These resources can be accessed from any computer with an Internet connection without a password.

Biz/ed
Resources on business, accounting, economics, travel and tourism and sports and leisure.

Health Information +
An NHS Scotland Website providing access to online quality assured health information.  Included is information on diabetes, strokes and medical dictionaries.


Intute
Search the Internet using Intute and discover useful resources evaluated by subject specialists.

VADs
The Online resource for visual arts with access to over 100,000  images copyright cleared for use in education.



Federated access management resources


You can log into these resources using your Carnegie College network username and password. That is the username and password you use to log onto College computers.    This login method is called federated access management. These resources are accessible both on and off campus using your Carnegie College network username and password.  For further details please see our helpsheet .


British Library Archival Sound recordings
Listen to spoken word and music from British Library collections.  Includes interviews with known artists about their lives and inspirations.

19th Century British Library Newspapers
Search regional and national newspapers from the 19th century online.

Credo Reference
An online reference resource containing dictionaries, encyclopedias, thesauri and books of quotations. 

Digimap
Online access to Ordnance Survey maps

Emerald
Full text access to management and engineering journals

Ebrary e-books 
Access to thousands of e-books covering many different subjects including business, care and computing.

Film and Sound Online
Video content covering topics including medicine, science and Shakespeare.

IHS Technical Indexes (click here to access off campus)
Online access to health and safety information, British standards and Building regulations.

Infotrac
Thousands of fulltext newspaper, journal and magazine on all subjects

Issues online
Online version of the Issues books series.  Covers a broad range of issues relevant to society including abortion, politics and the environment.

The John Johnson Collection
Access to thousands of items from the John Johnson Collection of printed ephemera covering  advertising, entertainment, crime and popular prints from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries.

NewsFilm Online
Online access to television news clips from ITN and Reuters. Clips date from the 1920s and can be downloaded. On campus click via direct access to login.  For access off campus click via UK Federation to login with federated access management.

Scran
An archive of multmedia materials on Scottish history and culture.  Click on'Shibboleth log in' on right side of the screen.

Zetoc
Access to the contents pages of around 20,000 journals and magazines from the British Library.  Keep up to date with new articles with email or rss alerts.

Europe in the Round
Information and statisitics on the countries in the European Union.  Also includes Iceland, Norway and Sweden.

Carel Press Fact File and Key Organisations
Access UK statistics on the economy and the population.  Also contains a directory of key UK organisations such as universities, charities and theatres
