The two main routes through college are:
Academic |
These are courses which mostly follow a traditional campus based format, although some may include a work placement in a relevant place of employment.
We offer a range of full-time courses, that’s 18-30 hours a week, (depending upon what you study) or part-time courses of anything up to 15 hours. These are available at:
- National Qualification level (Intermediate 1 and 2 and Higher)
- Higher National Qualification (HNC and HND)
- Carnegie also offers degree level courses in partnership with Napier University and by 2010 we plan to have an even wider range of full degrees delivered here in West Fife.
|
Vocational |
These are more likely to be work based courses for learners who prefer to study whilst in employment:
- SVQ (Scottish Vocational Qualifications)
- MA (Modern Apprenticeship).

Our Customer Services team are always happy to welcome you or your family to have a look around the college so let us know you are coming (for health and safety reasons) and we will provide you with a Welcome Pack, a map and some guidance on places to visit.
Carnegie College works in partnership with the High Schools of West and Central Fife to develop the range of opportunities available to school pupils. This means that you may even be able to attend Carnegie College as part of your school curriculum and study for vocational courses or even up to Advanced Highers.
Financial help such as Educational Maintenance Allowances (EMAs), Student Loans or a Young Students Bursary are available depending on your circumstances; additional funding support for travel, housing costs and childcare costs may also be available. See the Finance Options section for more information. Our finance team will be able to support you in accessing these funds.

Aged 16 or Under?
Each year many High School pupils choose to study with us. It’s a great way of finding out what interests you.

|
If you are still at school we offer a programme of Highers for High School pupils in the catchment area of Carnegie College.
We offer a wide range of NQ Highers on a full-time and part-time basis. As a student you can attend college during the day-time or evening; or use our learner bases, where you can get specialist study support as you need it. You can also keep in touch with your tutor by email or phone.
Carnegie College works in partnership with the High Schools of West and Central Fife to develop the range of opportunities available to school pupils. These courses will give you experience of learning in an adult environment, will give you a chance to be in real work situations and will also let you experience methods of learning you might not have come across at school. They range from full-time (for Winter leavers) to part time courses at all levels of the curriculum.
New courses are added every year; for example, Skills for Work or a short course in Animation, though there are many more to choose from.

Modern Apprenticeships for School Leavers
What is a Modern Apprenticeship?
Modern Apprenticeships offer those aged over 16 paid employment combined with the opportunity to train for jobs at craft, technician and management level. They are a way of gaining skills and qualifications that will lead to a career without having to study full-time, and are available now across a wide range of industries. All the Modern Apprenticeship frameworks are developed by the industry and therefore encompass all the skills you require to become a craftsman, technician or manager in that area.
