Top hotel tour for Carnegie students
Twelve students from Carnegie College spent Monday 17th May on a behind-the-scenes visit to luxury 5 star hotel Gleneagles.

The students, all from the college’s HNC Professional Cookery and Higher Hospitality courses, were given a guided tour of all of the resort’s kitchens by sous-chef Craig Hart – who was himself a former Hospitality student at Carnegie College.

Elaine Watson, Food and Beverages Trainer at Gleneagles, then took the group around the hotel’s many stunning restaurants and function rooms, including the two Michelin-starred Restaurant Andrew Fairlie. Managers from each of the areas of the resort were on hand to give tips on the qualities and attributes they look for when recruiting staff.

Andrew Main, Lecturer, said “We were very privileged today to receive this insight into the day-to-day running of one of Scotland’s finest hospitality establishments. The students benefited greatly from the visit, as it provided them with the rare opportunity to question professionals working at a prestige hotel.”

Blair Stewart, one of the HNC Professional Cookery course students, commented “I found today really useful. It was great to see a former Carnegie student working in one of the best restaurants in Scotland, as I hope to be a top chef one day too.”
