Working at Heights Training Tower now available at Carnegie
One year after Carnegie students first moved into Robert Purvis House (formerly the old Rosyth Fire Station), the ‘Working at Heights’ Training Tower is now fully operational. Working in collaboration with Capital Safety, a cage and ladders have been added to the tower allowing for a range of training to take place, including ‘Wind Turbine Access’ and ‘Rescue’ courses for the Renewable Energy Sector.

Training TowerAnn Brown, Head of Carnegie College’s School of Engineering and Sustainable Technologies said ‘This training facility is a fantastic opportunity for students and employers to develop the specific ‘working at height’ skills required by those working in the sector. The College is working in partnership with TAG Safety, part of the Capital Safety Group, specialists in this field. There are major construction projects underway in Scotland such as the construction of the new Forth crossing and the development of onshore and offshore windfarms.  All these projects require Health and Safety skills including ‘Working at Height’ as well as specific Engineering qualifications. Fife is uniquely positioned to service the needs of these projects and Carnegie College has made significant investment in infrastructure, equipment and resources to develop training courses that will ensure there are opportunities for those living and operating in the area to take advantage of employment and servicing requirements. The Training Tower at Robert Purvis House is just another example of the College working closely with employers and training agencies ensuring students and business are benefiting from the latest opportunities.’

Shaun Robertson, Training Director at Capital Safety commented ‘We’re very pleased to have been able to work alongside Carnegie College on this project, offering the wider local and business community the opportunity to develop their skills at a convenient location. Students can be assured that as well as receiving excellent training, with the addition of Capital Safety products on site, they are in the safest of hands.’

Courses such as these can be delivered using Distance and Blended learning using the College’s ‘Virtual Learning Environment’ platform which enables study to be undertaken at home, or at work and at a pace that suits work commitments. These methods of learning have been developed in response to our customers’ needs.
