| New College partnership creates scholarship opportunities |
|
Carnegie is pleased to announce the formation of a partnership with West Coast Energy and plans to create scholarship opportunities for students from the Kennoway, Kettle and Star community council areas. Up to six scholarships will be available to young people from these local communities and will provide financial support for students studying Engineering and Renewables at Carnegie, as well as providing mentoring aid supported by West Coast Energy.
The announcement further builds on the relationship between the college and West Coast Energy formed throughout the Little Raith wind farm project. Little Raith, currently being built near Cowdenbeath, is Fife’s first commercial wind farm to be given planning consent. Carnegie Principal, Geoff Fenlon, said ‘We are delighted to be entering into this exciting partnership. Carnegie’s development of leading edge opportunities for Wind Turbine Technicians in Fife has attracted many talented young school leavers into the energy industry and we believe that this will also be attractive to the young people in the communities of Kingskettle, Kennoway and Star.’ ![]() Steve Salt, West Coast Energy Planning and Development Director, commented, ‘We are serious about helping Fife become one of the centres of Renewable excellence in the UK. We are delighted to announce our partnership with Carnegie College and have pledged £10,000 to fund up to six scholarships. The scholarships will provide an excellent opportunity to get on the first rung of a career in engineering, and will provide successful applicants with extensive experience within the renewable energy industry – which is an area of key growth in Scotland.’ Posted on 7 October 2011 PHOTOGRAPH SHOWS CARNEGIE PRINCIPAL GEOFF FENLON WITH STEVE SALT, WEST COAST ENERGY PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR |
