| Apprentice welders reach national competition finals |
|
Welding apprentices studying at Carnegie College are proving they are among the best in Scotland as a result of taking part in competitions organised to find the best skilled apprentices in the country.
Three Burntisland Fabrications (BiFab) apprentices have made it to the finals of two separate welding competitions. • Thomas Rennie (20), from Inverkeithing – 1st place in East of Scotland SkillWeld heat. Thomas travelled to London for the UK final. The top six winners will be monitored and assessed over the coming year and the one with the most points will be chosen to go forward to the WorldSkills championship in London in July 2011. • Jordan Swan (19) from Dunfermline – 1st in regional heat Welder Scotland 2010 • Liam Syczynski (21) from Glenrothes – 2nd in regional heat Welder Scotland 2010 Jordan and Liam go through to Welder Scotland 2010 Final on 16 June at Motherwell College. Look out for the results. Thomas’s achievement is a first for Fife, as no other further education college in the area has had an outright winner at this level in the Skillweld competition before.
