Perhaps you feel you would prefer to build on your education whilst remaining in employment, earning as you learn. Or perhaps you simply like to be practical and get to work rather than taking time out to study a purely academic course. Vocational routes through college are becoming more and more popular and Carnegie College has a wide range of Modern Apprenticeships to help you achieve this. What is a Modern Apprenticeship?Modern Apprenticeships offer those aged over 16 paid employment combined with the opportunity to train for jobs at craft, technician and management level. They are an exciting way of gaining skills and qualifications that will help to start a career without having to study full-time, and are available now across a wide range of industries. All the Modern Apprenticeship frameworks are developed by the industry or sector in which they will be implemented and therefore encompass all the skills you require to become a craftsman, technician or manager in that area. Modern Apprenticeship frameworks can also be used as the basis for training existing employees. 5 out of the top 10 frameworks are in areas not traditionally associated with apprenticeships. Who are Modern Apprentices?Modern Apprentices can be new or existing employees of any age wishing to pursue an apprenticeship in order to further develop their skills and gain a recognised qualification. Each year thousands of learners complete their learning programmes in the workplace. People of all ages and stages in their career are learning this way. A growing number of Modern Apprentices are over the age of 25 with years of employment behind them. They understand the advantages of gaining a relevant nationally recognised, high level qualification. If you are over sixteen and in paid employment there's the opportunity to train for careers at craft, technician and management level. You receive a wage from the beginning of your training and the chance to develop expertise and knowledge through work-based or college-based training and assessment. All Modern Apprentices have a personal training agreement with their employer and Carnegie College. Together we will work with you to make sure that your plan is followed and your Modern Apprenticeship training agreement is met. Carnegie College has a large team of skilled staff who spend much of their time supporting Modern Apprentices in the workplace. With the right combination of theory and practice your career will be on track and you will gain a nationally recognised, high level qualification – an SVQ at Level 3 . Over 35% of Apprentices are female.
