International Students

Thank you for considering Carnegie College as a possible place to study in Scotland. We are sure you will enjoy your time here in our modern, innovative learning environment. There is always a lot going on. We care about all our students and will work together to help you make the most of your learning experience. From your first introduction to the College – right through to the end of your studies and your graduation, we’ll guide and support you as best we can.

We understand that reaching the decision to study in a foreign country can be challenging but together we can ensure you have every opportunity to reach your goals.

International applicants are required to provide a little more information when applying and this is because it affects your ability to get a study visa for the UK.  Carnegie College is delighted to sponsor international applicants for the duration of their studies here and would ask that the following information be included with any application to ensure that everything goes smoothly.

  • Copy of your valid passport.
  • Copy of any existing visa.
  • Copy of certificates from all qualifications achieved, together with the British equivalent if possible.  This information can be found with the United Kingdom National Recognition Centre (UK NARIC) and will provide advice on what your qualifications are equivalent to in the UK.  Visit their website at www.naric.org.uk.
  • English language competence.  For example, we would normally expect a score of 5.50/6.00 with the International English Testing System (IELTS) or a Cambridge ESOL exam or a score of approximately 500 with the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).

The Application Process

As part of the application process it is likely that staff will need to discuss your application on the phone and if we cannot reach you then we will contact you by email or letter.  It is important that you stay in regular contact during this time.International Students

You might be applying for a course that will include a work placement or experience element, for example something to do with care of children or adults. If this is the case then we will require you to provide a disclosure or clearance certificate from your country showing that you have no criminal record. Please make sure you organise this criminal background check before you leave your country as we will be unable to offer you a place if the certificate is not available.

If you are offered a place, we will send you a special letter and issue you with a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies number which will form part of your visa application to the UK Border Agency.  The College also sends a payment to the UK Border Agency to support your sponsorship and then we both wait to hear if your visa application has been successful.  When you receive your visa and start studying with us, all we ask is that a copy of your visa is given to us and that completes the process.

At Carnegie all of our learners are very important to us. We offer support so that you can concentrate upon what’s important and enjoy a rich and rewarding learning experience with us. Please read the Supporting Learning section for further information on the support available.

At Carnegie we create futures and we look forward to introducing you to the College and all it has to offer. Thank you.
