Am I eligible to graduate?

SQA HNC and HND Students
If you have successfully completed your SQA group award at HNC or HND level in 2010 either as a full or part-time student, you will be eligible to graduate at the ceremony.

Students progressing from HNC to HND are not normally invited to graduate until the final year of their studies. However, if they so wish they may graduate at both levels. In this instance they should notify their lecturer that they wish to attend.

You must ensure that all your assignments for the group award are complete and have been handed in to your lecturer in good time.

If you have been studying for an award over a number of years, please contact your lecturer to ensure all elements of the award have been completed.

You will receive your official certificate directly from the SQA. A presentation certificate from the College will be presented at the Graduation Ceremony.

Degree Students
If you have successfully completed your studies, you will be eligible to attend the ceremony and receive a presentation certificate. This is in addition to the Graduation Ceremony held by the university who accredit your degree. We require official notification from the individual university before invitations can be issued.

Professional Institute Students
eg CMI, CIPD, ITEC*
You will receive your official certificate from the appropriate Professional Institute. You will receive a presentation certificate from the College at the Graduation Ceremony.

* Please note that only students who have completed 3 ITEC certificates will be invited to graduate.

Do I need to know anything just now?

No, just keep a note of the date.

Letters of invitation and Graduation Information Packs will be sent out during August to those eligible to graduate.

Remember if you have left Carnegie College before this date, it is important that you inform us of any changes in your contact details.

How long does the ceremony last?

The ceremony itself lasts approximately one and a half hours, but students are requested to be in their seats 20 minutes before the start. Prior to the ceremony you will have to collect your academic gown and there will be the opportunity to have your photograph taken by the official photographers employed for the occasion (details of these arrangements will be found within the Graduation Information Pack).

What should I wear?

The Graduation Ceremony is a formal event and students are requested to dress smartly.

As a graduating student you will wear a gown and hood – gown hire details will also be found within the Graduation Information Pack.

How much will it cost to graduate?

The only expense a student will incur when attending the Graduation Ceremony is the cost of gown hire (around £22.00). Unlike many universities we do not charge our students or their guests to take part in the ceremony.

Can I bring anyone with me?

Each graduation student is entitled to 2 guest tickets for family members and/or friends. Extra tickets can be requested at the same time but will not be available until after the return date for acceptances and are issued on a first come, first served basis. Extra tickets cannot be guaranteed.

** Before graduating students are known as ‘graduands’ after the ceremony they are entitled to be called ‘graduates’.
