Funding FAQs
Hopefully the following information answers your main concerns over how you can finance your studies

Q. How much will I get in living costs on a full time course?
A. This depends on the level of course you are applying to, and in many cases the other income to the household.
Q. I hope to take a part time course, will I have to pay and can I get help with travel and childcare?
A. See our fact sheet: Financial Support Part Time FE and HE. This explains who can study a part time course for free - a fee waiver - and the extra help available through additional funding for childcare, travel and materials.
Q. Is there a limit to the amount of childcare someone can get?
A. This isn't limited by the number of children you have. However the College has only limited funds available and - this can mean that we may not be able to pay all of your childcare costs.
Q. I'd rather have a relative look after my children. Will the College pay childcare to them?
A. Unfortunately we are now only able to pay to registered providers - child minders, after school clubs, nurseries etc.
Q. I'm on benefit just now. Can I study full time and keep this?
A. See our leaflet "Studying whilst on Benefit". This is a complicated topic and you may want to phone the Student Development Centre or the Jobsearch Resource Centre to check. Make sure you are clear about this before you start your course.
Q. I don't understand the difference between a maintenance and a non-maintenance bursary.
A. Most people apply for a maintenance bursary because they hope to receive living expenses, fees, and help towards travel. A non-maintenance bursary only covers fees and help towards travel. Lone Parents, and people with a disability can choose to stay on benefit and apply for a non-maintenance bursary.
Q. The Bursary application form asks me to send my birth certificate. I can't find this what should I do?
A. If you have a passport that would do.
Q. The bursary application form asks for a P60 as evidence of earnings. I've lost mine, what else can I use?
A. Firstly, you, the student, don't need a P60, but your parents, partner or spouse might. Wage slips, letter from employer will do; or complete forms LBA2/3/4/5/6, which you will find at the back of the bursary application form.
Q. I'm under 18 and living with my parents. Their combined income last year was £15,000. Will I get living expenses?
A. You would be eligible to receive an EMA of £30 per week and also receive travelling expenses and have the cost of your tuition paid.
Q. Can I get funding for an HNC if I've already done one before?
A. If you received funding for a full time HNC before, you will not get your fees paid. You would, however, still be eligible for a student loan. If you are accepted onto a two-year HND you will be funded throughout, including fees.
Q. I don't want to apply for a student loan - can I still apply for travel and childcare?
A. No, you must have applied for the maximum loan available before you can apply to the Awards Agency for travel, or the College's additional funding for childcare.
