Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002

Welcome to the publication scheme for Carnegie College. Carnegie College, as a public body, is required to comply with the terms of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 (The Act), which came into full force on 1 January 2005. The Act aims to increase openness and accountability in government and across the public sector by ensuring that people have the right to access information held by Scottish public authorities.  People will be able to see and question how such bodies function and how decisions are made.  This should: lead to increased accountability; lead to the breakdown of a culture of secrecy; and ensure that public bodies look outward to the communities they serve. The Act means that anyone, anywhere can ask for any piece of information, and be entitled to receive it unless an exemption applies.
