Located in Carnegie College’s Halbeath campus, ECOSpace opened to visitors and students throughout Scotland in September 2006. To find out more follow this link to go to the ECOSpace web site. ECOSpace has been built using sustainable materials, processes and technology demonstrating sustainable approaches and best practice as a learning environment. It will fulfil a need amongst students, the local community and industry. The building has been constructed using green processes and technology and will showcase the best use of Scottish products. This is especially important since many of our customers and students will be the timber technicians of the future. The building uses a sedum roof which will demonstrate the cost effectiveness of using natural resources in building construction and their positive impact upon air quality. Other sustainable features of the building are:
The ASPIRE Centre (Additional Support Programme in Real-life Environments), although the smaller component of this centre, is a new concept in creating real life and work learning environments for students with severe learning difficulties, disabilities and complex needs. This facility will create simulated living and working environments enabling our learners to become confident and skilled for a more independent and rewarding life. The Construction Space within ECOSpace is an exciting, modern facility to train our future craftspeople in this important growth industry, and to redevelop many of the lost skills of the more traditional crafts in Construction. All facilities will include environmentally-friendly policies and practices, demonstrating best practice in construction training for Scotland. |
