Carnegie College has a £1million state-of-the-art centre for computing, IT and mechatronics based at the Halbeath campus.
This facility is part of the School of Computing and Creative Arts and caters for the fast rising demands of the computing and electronic manufacturing industries. It is designed to meet industry standards and our membership of the Scottish Microelectronics Skills Consortium ensures that we are kept fully aware of employers needs and future demands.
Our centre also offers a unique opportunity for learners to develop and improve their ICT skills in a dynamic, flexible learning environment.The ICT centre, is a vast room full of Dell PCs (over – 80 in total). This IT experience gives students the opportunity to acquire essential IT skills, so valued by employers. You can book in and use the pc anytime to get extra IT study practise. It’s a friendly, student-centred flexible space. Funding was secured from the European Regional Development Fund and the Scottish Further Education Funding Council and donations from charitable trusts. Equipment donations from Lexmark International and Motorola has ensured its fit with industry standards. The development was also supported by the Fife wide strategy for Women in Science and Technology (WIST) and by Fife Council. So what exactly is special about our Computing Centre?The design and layout of the centre encourages learning by providing a large multi-functional area for up to 80 PC users, computer workshops and a dedicated networking suite. There is also a pleasant reception and drop-in area, flexible tutorial suites, interview suites, social space and on-line contact centre enabling qualified tutors to stay in touch with learners.
