The Care Suite at Carnegie College will make a real difference to people keen to progress their career in this field.
Carnegie College's new training for care facility on its Halbeath campus in Dunfermline is now open. Childcare, care of the elderly and for adults with learning disabilities are all catered for in this multi-purpose centre of excellence. Included in this new suite is a large childcare studio designed to create play areas, a mock nursery, a play/drama area for role play, simulation exercises and practical demonstrations. The Care Suite is particularly aimed at supporting: childcare and education staff, early years workers, childminders, out of school care, learning assistants/support for learning assistants, healthcare professionals, nursing/pre-nursing staff, social care/home care assistants and care management professionals. For healthcare students an equally large practical care "ward" offers moving and handling facilities, practical nursing skills, personal-care facilities and simulation/role play areas. The facility also focuses upon developing baby care and midwifery skills, as well as dealing with challenging behaviour. Adults and young people with learning difficulties can also get practical help to develop important skills in parenting, childcare, eldercare and personal care. Parenting skills classes - offering advice, support and access to learning resources are also available to individuals, groups and community groups. TV, video and ICT technology support both practical areas and enhance the learning experience by capturing students in training for playback and analysis. Several large multi-purpose classrooms, a smaller group tutorial room and a new drop-in Care Learner Base complete this busy area. Superb new facilities for complementary therapies have also been opened within our Creative Arts facility which includes a small fitness studio, a classroom, complementary therapies practitioners suite, toilets, shower and changing facilities. Courses focus upon promoting health and well-being and a positive approach to stress management. |
