| Equality and Diversity at Carnegie College |
|
Carnegie College takes its moral and legal responsibilities on Equality of Opportunity seriously. We therefore have an Equality and Diversity Group, made up of a cross-section of staff and student representatives to oversee this important area of work and a number of working groups to ensure that our objectives and plans are carried forward onto actions. Policies have been developed to publicise our stance against unfair discrimination on age, disability, gender, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, maternity and pregnancy, race or nationality, religion/ belief, sexual orientation and other irrelevant grounds. We aim to make sure that the provisions of the Equality Act 2010 enable students, staff and other users of our services to be accorded respect and fair treatment in the delivery of our services. Third party harassment of all college learners, staff and customers is unacceptable and we ask that everyone including third party contractors or staff on our premises accept responsibility for adhering to our policies. Breaches invoke disciplinary measures. Our values and behaviours demonstrate our determination to eliminate unfair discrimination by fostering a culture of fairness, trust and respect in which bullying and harassment are not acceptable or tolerated. We are keen to ensure that any barriers which existed in the past are overcome through continuous improvement in our estate and our practices and we actively encourage under-represented groups or individuals to access our services, irrespective of their background. We feel strongly about the importance of ensuring that the culture in our college is built on a foundation of respect and integrity and in our Statement of Mission, Vision, Values and Behaviours we have stated these expectations. Since we strive to demonstrate best practice in equality and diversity, we offer regular training, updating and information to staff and learners. We are members of the Fife Community Safety Partnership and we are always keen to involve or hear from any representative or group who can help to turn our aims into reality or who can offer suggestions for improvements in our policies and practices. We welcome and will respond to your feedback.
