Equality and Diversity at Carnegie College
Carnegie College takes its moral and legal responsibilities on Equality of Opportunity seriously.

We have an Inclusiveness Strategy with objectives to reach out to all learners including disadvantaged groups. We have formed a Diversity Forum, made up of a cross-section of staff and student representatives to ensure that no-one is disadvantaged by unfair discrimination.

Policies have been developed to publicise our stance against discrimination on age, gender, race, nationality, disability, sexual orientation, religion or belief, gender reassignment and other irrelevant grounds. Students, staff and other users of our services therefore have the right to fair treatment and must also accept responsibility for adhering to policies. Any breaches are likely to invoke disciplinary measures. We have a set of values and behaviours and aim to demonstrate these by fostering a culture of fairness, trust and respect in which bullying and harassment are not acceptable or tolerated.

We feel so strongly about the importance of ensuring that the culture in our college is built on a foundation of respect and integrity and in our Statement of Mission, Vision, Values and Behaviours have stated this as clearly as we can. The Behaviours associated with our Values also demonstrate these expectations.

College policies and schemes for Disability, Gender and Race set out our commitment to attracting and supporting learners with disabilities and the services, facilities and resources available. We also detail our commitment to promoting access to learning for everyone irrespective of their backgrounds including people form black and minority ethnic community and other under-represented groups as well as men and women. All of our policies are published on the student and staff intranet and any questions about policies can be addressed to members of the Diversity Forum. We strive to demonstrate best practice in equality and diversity so offer regular training, updating and information to staff and learners. We are genuinely always keen to involve or hear from any representative or group who can help to turn our aims into reality or who offer suggestions for improvements in our policies and practices.  We welcome your feedback.
