Wider Access Programme
SWAP promotes access to Higher Education for mature students (21 or over) throughout Scotland.

If you do not have the necessary entry requirements to go to university (perhaps because you have not studied for some time) we offer a special course that could be your answer.

The Scottish Wider Access Programme, known as SWAP, involves a group of further education colleges and higher eduational institutions working together to establish articulation agreements for students moving from SWAP access programmes to university. SWAP programmes are only available in specific specialist areas and are normally studied full-time over one year. They prepare students well for study at degree and diploma level, providing successful students with the skills and qualifications necessary to progress.

SWAP programmes available at Carnegie include:
  • Access to Health and Life Sciences: Queen Margaret University College and Napier University
  • Access to Humanities: Abertay University, Stirling University, Edinburgh University, Dundee University, Napier University, St Andrews University and Queen Margaret University College
  • Access to Science: Edinburgh University, Napier University and Queen Margaret University College
We can save you money! There are very few opportunities for Fife’s people to study high quality degrees without facing a lengthy commute. Student loans are a huge burden and by starting your university career at Carnegie College you will have the convenience and associated cost savings that studying close to home can bring.
