Carnegie College Student Makes Final of National Championship
Part-time Carnegie College student, John Stevens, 23, whose school report card said ‘he would go nowhere in life’, recently proved that he is going somewhere. John, who is employed by Fife Council Building Services, is currently undertaking SVQ Level 2/3 in Roofing, Slating and Tiling on block-release at Carnegie College’s Cowdenbeath campus, and was one of the 17 finalists from 500 nominated for the prestigious James Birnie Award for Craft Excellence 2008. Although he didn’t win, John was presented with a cheque and trophy, which he travelled to Glasgow to receive with a very proud mum. No stranger to awards, John was voted Apprentice of the Year in 2007 for roofing, and was runner-up Adult Apprentice with Fife Council this year.

Local Lord to Deliver College Lecture
Lord Sandy Leitch of Oakley will return to his native Fife later this month to address guests from local industry at Carnegie College’s annual George Lauder Lecture on the theme of ‘Business - Preparing for Tomorrow’.

Characters from pantomime and Disney films will come together in a fun-packed, laughter-filled, singing and dancing extravaganza performed by Carnegie College students in aid of the annual BBC Children in Need Appeal next week.

Carnegie Student Receives Fife Council Modern Apprentice Of The Year Award
At a recent ceremony held by Fife Council, Douglas Ferguson, who is in his 3rd year of training to become a gas technician with Fife Council’s Building Services and studying with Carnegie College, received the Apprentice of the Year award. Douglas received his award from Councillor Frances Melville, Provost of Fife, in recognition of his commitment and achievement in the past year. This is the second year in a row that Douglas has won this award, impressing the judges again with his technical knowledge, the quality of his work and his motivation to succeed.

Business Impact Suite Open Doors To Success
The Business Impact Suite (BIS) at Carnegie College’s Access Centre, Methil and supported by Fife Council, is a new facility for unemployed people in east and central Fife looking to start up a new business, was officially opened on 29 May by Peter Hughes OBE, Chief Executive of Scottish Engineering. Within the BIS, ‘Business Incubators’ offer hot desking and a whole range of business support services seldom available in one location and is especially attractive to new and growing business for their waterside location, with easy parking, in a state of the art business facility.
