The Open Day is part of the celebrations taking place across the world to mark the first Global Business Incubation Day.

On Friday 14 November 2008, over 100 teachers from local high schools attended In-service day (INSET) events at Carnegie College, as part of a Fife Partnership approach to provide good curriculum choices for school pupils from S3 upwards with emphasis on the Scottish Qualifications Authority’s ‘Skills for Work’ curriculum. Skills for Work Courses help provide young people with good opportunities to develop their self-confidence. They also aim to provide a very positive learning experience. For many young people, an early chance to work on practical skills that relate directly to the world of work will provide real benefits to their overall educational programme.

Located on Carnegie College’s Halbeath Campus in Dunfermline, ECOSpace is the UK’s first centre for sustainable construction. While the facility caters for courses ranging from joinery, painting and decorating to furniture restoration and upholstery, one of the most important lessons to be learnt here is that of green construction. Environmental best practice is the message at the heart of all courses on offer and the building itself is designed to the highest environmental standards, demonstrating that a building can really practice what it preaches. |

Enthusiastic Carnegie College students have reached their target of £1000 to provide a water pump for a village in Malawi. The students are all from the School of Access and Communities and attend the College’s Community Link course which helps those with learning disabilities extend their education, develop self-confidence and independent living skills. John Park MSP visited the College to congratulate the students on their achievement.
