| From Kelty to Korea the art of Tae Kwon Do is alive and kicking |

Former Carnegie College employee Douglas Chalmers, a member of the Scottish Tae Kwon Do squad, recently returned from the International Tae Kwon Do World Championships in South Korea with silver and bronze medals.
Douglas was a member of the group representing Scotland, competing at individual and team levels and won the 2 medals for team performances in power and special technique categories. Funding for this type of trip is always a problem, but this year Douglas received support from Carnegie College to help towards his travel costs. Douglas has been teaching Tae Kwon Do to children 4 years and upwards in Kelty Community Centre for the past 3 years and said "The classes in Kelty are well attended. Tae Kwon Do helps the children to keep fit, whilst instilling self-confidence and self-discipline and promoting a really positive attitude. It is much more than kicking and punching. It is action philosophy designed as a complete non-violent discipline of entire body training and character building.” Douglas, from Rosyth, will be returning to the College in August, this time as a student, studying Visual Communications at Higher National level with a view to continuing to degree level and taking up a career in teaching whilst continuing his Tae Kwon Do activities. ![]() Photograph: Douglas showing off his medals to his Kelty students.
