Carnegie Student Receives Fife Council Modern Apprentice Of The Year Award |
At a recent ceremony held by Fife Council, Douglas Ferguson, who is in his 3rd year of training to become a gas technician with Fife Council’s Building Services and studying with Carnegie College, received the Apprentice of the Year award. Douglas received his award from Councillor Frances Melville, Provost of Fife, in recognition of his commitment and achievement in the past year. This is the second year in a row that Douglas has won this award, impressing the judges again with his technical knowledge, the quality of his work and his motivation to succeed.
Fife Council’s Building Services has made an enormous commitment to providing, developing and improving their modern day Apprentice Programme with significant investment of £1.2m to the programme. This support together with funding for ‘Investment in the Workforce’ was channelled into an Adult Apprentice Programme, which has given skilled employees the unique opportunity to work towards a recognised trade.
Head of the School of Built Environment at Carnegie, Alan Huey said “Apprenticeships are a great opportunity to combine paid employment with training for jobs at craft, technician and management level. Carnegie College, in partnership with organizations such as Fife Council work together to train individuals to an excellent standard, which meets industry requirements. We are exceptionally pleased with the quality of the Fife Council employees and are particularly pleased with Douglas’ work throughout his apprenticeship.”
Douglas Ferguson has also recently been nominated for ‘Association of Public Service Excellence’ in the mechanical, electrical category. Jackie Easton, Training Advisor for Fife Council said, “Douglas is an exceptional apprentice who has shown commitment and enthusiasm throughout his training with Fife Council. I am extremely delighted that he has won the overall apprentice of the year with Fife Council Building Services for the second year running.”
As part of the Fife Council ceremony, Carnegie College students also celebrated the award of Best 1st Year Apprentice, which went to Joiner, Douglas Gresty, and a highly commendable ‘clean sweep’ of awards for the category of Best 1st Year Adult Apprentice, picking up awards for Best, Runner-up and Merit positions.
