| The Soul Train pulls into Carnegie Conference Centre |
|
Soul comes to the Carnegie Conference Centre on 31July when Dunfermline DJ Brian Nobile hosts his 60s and 70s Soul Night show. With music from artists such as Ottis Reading, the three degrees and the Drifters, it promises to be a brilliant ‘summer soul night get-together’ with great music, great food and a great atmosphere.
Brian has been delighting audiences with his choice of music since 1967, and 42 years later is Dunfermline’s longest serving DJ. He has dee-jayed throughout Fife and beyond over the years, at venues such as the Soul Cellar and the Kinema Ballroom in Dunfermline, hospital radio and his current work entertaining patrons at Fife Leisure Centres. Brian takes to the stage with his ‘60s and 70s Soul Night’ dinner and disco show on 31 July at the Carnegie Conference Centre in Dunfermline, and hopes that in addition to those regulars who have come to his shows over the past 42 years, a new audience will come along and get onboard the soul train. As Brian says, “The 60s and the 70s are gone forever, but the music still remains, and whether you are one of the original teenagers who was part of the scene first time round, or have come across the music through your parents or grandparents, I would urge you to come along to what promises to be a brilliant summer soul night get-together, with great music, great food and a great atmosphere.” ![]() Brian, from Rosyth, has dee-jayed throughout Fife and beyond over the years, at venues such as the Soul Cellar and the Kinema Ballroom in Dunfermline, which in its heyday in the 60s and 70s saw some of the biggest names in music such as The Who and Elton John take to its stages. Playing all types of sounds from rock to pop, from golden oldies to new releases, Brian’s passion however was and is soul music and the Motown sounds of artists like Ottis Reading, The 3 Degrees and the Drifters. Brian has become known as Dunfermline’s entertainment historian, thanks to his knowledge of the music scene in and around Dunfermline, taking an active role in the development of local venues, including the recent resurrection of the Alhambra Theatre in Canmore Street as a venue for live music. He was also instrumental in starting the Soul Cellar Club in 1968, commenting “The club was located in a small basement in Chalmers Street in Dunfermline. It only held about 70 people so we didn’t really try and publicise it too much, but word of mouth meant that it was crowded each night and it quickly became the ‘in’ place as live music and disco moved into the pubs and clubs.” Tickets for the Soul Night, which starts at 7.30 pm on Frjday 31 July, cost £17.50 and includes in the price a glass of wine on arrival, 2 course dinner with coffee, and an evening of dancing to superb soul classics.
