Student Achieves Queen's Badge
When Carnegie College student, Sam Fenwick (18) from Dunfermline, was recently awarded one of the highest achievements in the Boys’ Brigade, the Queen’s Badge, he had his course at Carnegie College to thank for part of it. Sam, currently studying NQ Digital Media Computing, had to carry out various activities that included a 2 day hike and 30 hours community service, completed at the British Heart Foundation and the Bethany Trust Caring Christmas Trees scheme.

In addition he had to undertake a project using new media, and as his college course includes web page design, flash media and video, he decided to build a website for his company, the 3rd Dunfermline. Sam said “I had been learning about web development at college, so thought I would make use of this knowledge by creating a website that our members could make use of, putting on photos of the company, listing our activities and a calendar of events, basically information that will help existing members and attract new ones.”

Sam, who has been a member of the Boy’s Brigade for 12 years, received his Queen’s Badge at a ceremony in May at Pitreavie Primary School in early June. It was a family occasion and a proud moment for his mum, Christine Fenwick, herself is a Lieutenant in the Boy’s Brigade and longest serving member in the company, and who had the honour of presenting Sam with his badge. Sam’s dad, who works offshore, also managed to attend the ceremony. This award means that Sam can now become an officer within his company, the 3rd Dunfermline, and pass on his skills to the 40 members who range from 6-18 years of age.

Sam will now go on to take part in officer training over the next two years, while continuing to study at Carnegie.
