Carnegie College Gas Training Nominated for Business Skills Award
As the premier training provider of gas related training in Scotland, Carnegie College is pleased to have been shortlisted in the SBGI Gas Industry Awards.
It is in recognition of the College’s contribution towards business skills, in particular, the development of the Industrial and Commercial Gas Installation and Maintenance qualification with the awarding body City & Guilds. The College is the first training provider in the UK to offer this qualification to the industry.

The College has recently delivered the new Industrial and Commercial qualification providing great opportunities for future employment in the gas industry. Twelve long term unemployed and redundant workers have already successfully come through this course at NVQ level and gained employment.

The areas the National Gas Training and Assessment Centre at Carnegie College has developed are areas of training that are often overlooked, for instance, prevention of Carbon Monoxide poisoning in homes of the elderly. The college also provides courses suitable for landlords and managers, giving them essential training in their responsibilities and legal obligations in relation to gas safety.

Carnegie College’s National Gas Training and Assessment Centre has an exemplary reputation and excellent partnerships with manufacturers, local authorities and consultancy groups and it was this valuable relationship that led to a new training course for major European holiday and travel company employees.

In Britain there are up to 30 deaths annually caused by poorly installed or maintained appliances and the College is determined that the local and European communities will be safer as a direct result of the training it provides.

It is these valuable contributions to the industry and employment that Carnegie College is being recognised for in the Business Skills Award category. A panel of industry experts will judge the entries on the 14th May 2008 at the London Hilton, Park Lane.
