Police on course for community engagement
In an exciting new initiative, Fife Constabulary is giving members of the community an opportunity to get an exclusive insight into the roles and responsibilities of Police Officers and the Police Force in general.

The launch of the Police in the Community programme kicks off with a 7 week evening course at Carnegie College in Dunfermline, covering areas such as the history of Fife Constabulary, road policing, tackling drugs and safer neighbourhoods. Participants will also get the chance to visit the Force Contact Centre in Glenrothes and check out the CCTV suite and the armed response vehicle.

Starting on 26 October and running every Monday at Carnegie College between 6.30 and 8.30 pm until 7 December, classes will appeal to anyone who has an interest in their community and the methods used to keep and maintain its safety, or are perhaps considering a career with the police and would like to know a bit more about what’s involved.

Inspector Gordon Mitchell for South West Fife area said “This is an exciting programme and I see it very much as a positive community engagement initiative, something a bit different that may appeal to a large variety of people from many walks of life. It is open to anyone aged 16 and over, and participants will receive two hours of training each week, experiencing some of the highlights of police training and being exposed to the operations behind the Force’s Policing Plan. There is no cost involved, and the programme is wholly facilitated by Police Officers, with all presentations made by officers and police staff.”

Whilst the programme provides a detailed oversight of a police force, it is not intended as an accredited certification course to becoming a police officer or member of police staff.
